Of Mice and Men Intro

The first of the following two entries gives the students a very general history of the Migrant Experience durning the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. The information given allows the students to understand how the migrant workers lived and what they were forced to endure. This lesson helped my students get a better feel for the time period as well as assist them in further understanding of the novella.

The second lesson is the expectations and rubric for the multi-genre project that each student was to complete after finishing the novella. This project allowed the students to look at writing in many different ways and demonstrated to them that different types of writing need to include different information and be written for different audiences. The projects allowed me to see where my students were skill wise when forced to write for different purposes as well as to see what themes stood out the them most from the novella.
